HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss outdoor track and field teams embark on the 2014 Conference USA Championship this week, beginning the four-day competition in Houston, Texas, on Friday.
Action at the Holloway Field & Ley Track began on Thursday with the multi-events. Friday will conclude the multi-events and beginning the throwing events with the hammer for the men and women and the day concludes with the 10K for the men and women. The meet continues on Saturday's at 3 p.m. with a full slate of events and concludes on Sunday.
Southern Miss boasts 25 marks inside the top 25 in the conference.
On Friday, Southern Miss opens competition with Katie Canavin set to compete in the 10,000 meters. On Saturday, preliminary rounds for running events begin at 5 p.m. with the 1,500 meters while field events begin at 3 p.m. with the men's and women's long jump followed by the men's discus and conclude with the women's discus.
Finals of the running events start at 4:30 p.m., Sunday while the remaining field events begin at 2:30 p.m.
Randy McCoy holds the second-best performance in the 110-meter hurdles while Courtland Wells ranks third in the high jump, Robert Collingwood ranks third in the shot, Richard Collingwood ranks third in the discus and Ethan Rich ranks third in the javelin.
On the women's side, Rachel Polk owns the top performance in the league in the discus while Kayla Taylor ranks fourth in the same event. Polk also ranks third in the shot put.
