Men’s Track Team Sweeps C-USA Indoor Championship Meet Awards
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The 2018 Conference USA Indoor Track & Field Performers of the Meet awards were released today by the league office. All awards are voted on by C-USA track & field head coaches and are based on the student-athlete’s performance in the 2018 C-USA Indoor Championships.
McKinely West and John Warren swept the Men’s Indoor Performers of the Meet awards after their record breaking performances.
West had a successful trip to the CrossPlex bringing home the gold in both the 60m dash (6.66) and the 200m. The junior broke the school record in the 200m with a time of 20.85 along with the gold medal. To add to his count, he was a member of the bronze medal 4x400 group, running the opening leg, helping the squad to another school record with a time of 3:11.86. With his three medals and 25 points he returned to campus the Men’s Top Scorer of the Meet. He currently is nationally ranked 12th in the 200m and 17th in the 60m.
The Prince George native, Warren, stole the show in the triple jump breaking not only the school record but the C-USA Indoor Championship record with a mark of 16.34m. With that mark he moves to #2 in the Nation in the triple jump. He broke both records and secured the gold medal. Warren also earned the men’s team a point in the long jump with an eighth place finish with a mark of 7.15m.
With the final performance list coming out in the next two weeks, Southern Miss anxiously awaits the final rankings of the athletes. The top 16 in each event are invited to compete at the NCAA Indoor National Championships in College Station, Texas.
