Golden Eagle Track and Field take on Nashville Again
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss men’s and women’s track and field teams head back to Nashville to compete in the Music City Challenge, hosted by Vanderbilt.
Events will begin Friday evening at 4 p.m. with the high jump and pick back up on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. with the women’s 3000m.
“This is a great tune up meet for us on a fast track, with some national class competition,” said head coach Jon Stuart. “We are looking forward to carrying this momentum we have into the conference championships next week”
Earlier in the season the Golden Eagles competed in the Vanderbilt Invitational at this same facility where the team brought home four school records. Along with the school records they came home with two event wins, McKinely West in the 200m and John Warren in the triple jump.
Following that week Warren claimed C-USA Male Athlete of the Week and ranked fifth in the NCAA in the triple jump; he still holds that ranking.
Last weekend the team split up and competed in the Bayou Bengal Invite and the Jaguar Invite claiming three event wins and a school record; Cra’vorkian Carson broke the 60m record with a time of 6.64 at the Bayou Bengal.
This is the final indoor meet before the Golden Eagles go back to Birmingham to vie for a C-USA Indoor Championship. Fans can follow the live results of the Music City Challenge here.
