Track and Field Splits Meets This Weekend
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss men's and women's Track and Field teams will be split up this weekend between two meets. Most of the team is headed to Baton Rouge to compete in the Bayou Bengal Invite on Friday; then on Sunday, a smaller group will compete in Birmingham at the Jaguar Invite.
"We're splitting the team up this weekend to take advantage of some fast tracks, said head coach Jon Stuart. "Our team is rounding into form, and this weekend will give us a clearer picture of how we stack up against C-USA opponents."
After taking the last weekend off, the team is looking for strong marks headed into Championship season.
"I feel good about our progress as a team, continued Stuart. "The urgency that comes with the championship month of February will help us sharpen up."
John Warren, who was named Male Field Athlete of the Week on Jan. 23, is currently holding the fifth spot in NCAA and atop C-USA, after his record breaking mark of 52'8". Warren along with Caleb Parker, who also broke a school record at the Vanderbilt Invitational in the 60m hurdles and ranked 12th in NCAA, will both be traveling to the LSU Bayou Bengal Invite on Friday.
Seniors Trista Barry and Courtney Filliben along with sophomore Patton Little highlight the group headed to Birmingham on Sunday. In conference, Barry is ranked fourth in the high jump, Filliben is fourth in the 800m, and Little is ranked third in the 3000m.
