Cross Country Eagles Finish Tenth at the Crimson Tide Classic
TUSCALOOSA, Ala.--The Southern Miss cross country team captured a 10th-place finish out of 24 teams at the Crimson Tide Classic on Friday.
Southern Miss team scored 306 points while Alabama won the team title with 68 points.
"I was very pleased with the effort our team gave today," Coach Aaron Kindt said. "We had a game plan and we executed that plan very well. The team took another positive spot forward this afternoon and we are excited to get back to work as we move into the Championship season."
Rebecca Ulrich (40) was the top finisher for the Golden Eagles, covering the 5K course in a time of 18:19.51. Daphney Stanford (45) was next for the Eagles with a time of 18:22.67. Kristin Zarrella (59) crossed the finish line with a time of 18:34.63 followed by Alonda Hoyos (70) with a time of 18:50.05, Dana Dillistone (92) at 19:11.00 and Katie Canavin (103) with a time of 19:34.12.
"Rebecca has been a steady force for our team since day one and continued that," Kindt said. "She has really done a great job day-in and day-out taking care of the little things and providing fantastic leadership for our young team. Daphney and Kristin also put up season best this afternoon. You can see them gaining confidence each time they step up to the line."
Kindt added, "Alondra and Dana battled some adversity today, but they handled it with tremendous poise and were able to put together solid performances today that help us finish in the Top 10."
The next meet for the Golden Eagles will the Conference USA Championship, Nov. 1 in Denton, Texas.
