Golden Eagles Conclude Regular Season with a Top 15 Finish at Crimson Classic
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Southern Miss women's cross country team finished eleventh, out of 31 teams, with 336 points over several regionally ranked teams at the Crimson Classic.
The Golden Eagles placed higher than Florida State, Lipscomb and Middle Tennessee, whom are all ranked in the South Region along with Southern Miss.
Kate Mattox led the way with a 34th place finish with a time of 21:32.4. Closely followed by sophomores Regen McGee (21:42.4) and Savannah McMillon (21:49.3).
“I’m proud of the effort today,” said coach Aaron Kindt. “Kate, Regen and Savannah ran really well. We had a couple people hit a wall so we looked to a couple younger girls to step up and Maddie and Emma Kate did just that.”
Madeleine Bell (22:45.2), Emma Kate Holdbrooks (23:02.5), and Theresa Harto (23:10.2) rounded out the team.
“Maddie and Emma Kate ran really hard in their first ever 6K, keeping us a top-15 team.” continued Kindt. “
Next up for the Golden Eagles is the Conference USA Championship. Southern Miss is hosting the race in Clinton, Mississippi on Oct. 28.
“We have a couple weeks to make some necessary adjustments and get our top five group back together,” said Kindt. “I think we have a good chance to put together a good season.”
