AUBURN, Ala. - The Southern Miss cross country team claimed third place in the Auburn Cross Country Invitational Friday evening, finishing with 87 points as the Golden Eagles placed two runners in the top 10.
Senior Stephanie Ledgerwood was the first Golden Eagle to cross the finish line, covering the 4K course in a time of 14:48.0. Freshman Rebecca Ulrich finished 10th overall with a time of 15:07.3 while senior Krista Moylan came in at 16th overall with a time of 15:14.9.
Rounding out the Golden Eagle scoring was senior Jocelyn Lockhart 21st with a time of 15:31.8 and Katie Canavin was 35th with a time of 16:09.8. Freshman Sarah Smith was the final Golden Eagle to cross the finish line with a time of 17:11.6.
Auburn claimed the team title scoring 52 points after placing five runners in the top 15. Samford was second with 83 points while Mercer finished fourth (119), Kennesaw State fifth (122), Florida State sixth (133), UAB seventh (139), Alabama State eighth (197), Troy ninth (235), Birmingham Southern 10th (295) and Alcorn State 11th (296).
Southern Miss returns to action on Sept. 22 when the Golden Eagles host the Screamin' Eagle 5K Festival.
