TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Southern Miss cross country team opened the season with a second-place finish at the Crimson Tide Kick Off at the Harry Pritchett Running Park on Saturday.
Senior Stephanie Ledgerwood finished second overall after posting a time of 10:52.04 over the 3K course. Senior Krista Moylan was 10th overall with a time of 11:21.60. Freshman Felice Johnson made her collegiate debut finishing just out of the top 10 at 11 with a time of 11:22.45. Rounding out the Southern Miss runners were freshman Rebecca Ulrich (13) with a time of 11:23.46, senior Jocelyn Lockhart (16) with a time of 11:53.05 and freshman Katie Canavin (19) at 12:10.01.
Alabama took the team title after placing six runners in the top 10 as the Tide scored 25 points. Southern Miss second with 52 points followed by Samford with 82, UAB 94, West Alabama 121 and Alabama A&M with 151. UAB's Sarah Hudak was the individual winner, posting a time of 10:47.02 in the race.
Southern Miss travels to the Auburn Invitational on Sept. 7.
