Smith Advances to the NCAA National Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Southern Miss track and field team had one Golden Eagle qualify for the NCAA Championships during the second day of the NCAA Preliminary Championships on Friday.
Kyle Smith punched his ticket to Eugene, Ore., for the NCAA Track and Field Championships, which will take place June 5-8.
Smith began the day for Golden Eagles in the men's javelin as he was competing in the third flight with the top-seeded throwers. Smith opened his performance with a mark of 63.03m (206-11) before adding a better performance with a throw of 70.71m (232-0) for sixth overall. He passed on his final attempts as his mark was well within the top-12 threshold required to advance.
Ethan Rich recorded a mark of 58.02m (190-4) and did not advance to the national meet.
Randy McCoy advanced to the quarterfinal round of the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.00 as he finished third in his heat. He is scheduled to compete on Saturday at 7:20 p.m.
Krista Moylan recorded a time of 10:33.28 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
