Track and Field Saw One Podium Visit on Day Two of C-USA Championships
HOUSTON, Texas – The C-USA Championships wrapped up Day Two with the Golden Eagles scoring points in nearly every event on the day. The women currently have 14 and in fourth place after three events and the men have seven after two.
Freshman Callie Jones finished sixth overall with 4928 points, scoring three points for Southern Miss. Jones won the javelin event with a mark of 47.38m to give her 809 points in that event alone.
In the women’s hammer throw, Nadia Maffo reached the podium for the second straight-year, finishing third, while Danisha Jones finished fourth overall to combine for 11 team points. Emma Kate Holdbrooks finished the women’s 10,000m run in 11th place with a time of 38:55.99.
Donald Daley and Robert Watson both scored in the men’s hammer throw with Daley finishing fourth overall with a mark of 58.95m and Watson seventh with a toss of 57.18m.
Competition continues tomorrow at 3 pm with the men’s discus with the men’s 1500m kicking the running events off at 5:30 pm.
