Track and Field Has Strong Showing in Outdoor Season Opener
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Golden Eagle men's and women's outdoor track and field team concluded the outdoor season opener this weekend at the Bulldog Relays in Starkville, Miss. hosted by Mississippi State.
Overall, there were three event winners again today. Cra’vorkian Carson brought home the win in the men’s 200m dash with a time of 21.36. The men’s 4x100m team consisting of Alexander Richemond, Cra’vorkian Carson, Kemar Sims, and Jamad Smith ran a 41.42 to take first. In the women’s high jump, Jamari Drake took first with a 1.70m mark.
The women’s team started the day off strong with second place finishes by Keiyana Gaskin in the 200m with a time of 24.17, Modesty Lorick in the 100m hurdles with a 13.85 time, and Talia Thompson running the 400m hurdles in 1:03.44.
Shundoria Hardy placed ninth in the 100m dash with a 12.44 time.
The women’s 4x400m relay team made up of Adriana Allen, Aireanna Taylor, Modesty Lorick, and Nina Nkem, finished third with a 3:48.01 time.
Alexis Chiles, Danisha Jones and Nadia Maffo all competed in the shot put. Chiles finished second with a toss of 14.15m, Jones with a 13.65m mark placed her sixth and Maffo came in seventh after a 13.32m mark.
On the men’s side, Caleb Parker finished second in the 110m hurdles, Kemar Sims ran the 100m dash in 10.94 coming in ninth, and Kasey Spinks came in third in the 400m hurdles with a 56.21 time.
The men's 4x400m relay team, consisting of Alexander Richemond, Curtis Walker, Bryson Penton, and Lorenzen Burton the event with a time of 3:15.87, placing third.
Emron Gibbs and Thomas Peters came in fourth and fifth in the javelin with 66.69 and 62.21 marks.
The Golden Eagles will return to action next weekend in Tallahassee, Fla. at the Florida State Relays.
