Carson Breaks School Record at Bayou Bengal Invite
BATON ROUGE, La. – The Southern Miss men’s and women’s Track and Field teams saw another school record broken and event win to start the weekend off.
Cra’vorkian Carson picked up where he left off last season setting a new school record in the 60m dash with a time of 6.64, finishing second overall. Teammate McKinely West, who held the 60m school record previously, came in third behind Carson with a time of 6.68.
Caleb Parker won the men’s high jump with a mark of 2.16m and also took home the second place finish in the 60m hurdles with a time of 7.85 seconds. Christian Strong finished the 60m hurdles in 8.43 seconds to take home sixth overall. Junior Devonta Brassell came in sixth in the men’s triple jump with a mark of 14.41m.
Senior Trista Barry finished third in the high jump with a 1.68m mark with Jamari Drake coming in fifth with a mark of 1.63m. Freshmen Rikianne Patterson and Adrianna Mitchell finished second and seventh overall in the women’s long jump. Another freshman, Raegan Green, came in eighth in the women’s triple jump with a mark of 10.97m.
In the women’s 60m dash, Keiyana Gaskin can in sixth with a time of 7.69 and Patterson was right behind in seventh with a time of 7.70.
The throws group had a solid outing starting with the women’s shot put where the group went second, fourth, seventh and eighth with Brashe’ Wood claiming second place with a toss of 14.72m. Danisha Jones took second in the women’s weight throw with Nadia Maffo in third, and Alexis Chiles in ninth.
On Sunday, a smaller group will head to Birmingham to compete in the Jaguar Invitational prior to heading back to Nashville next weekend for the Music City Invite.
