BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Southern Miss indoor track and field teams posted 12 top eight performances at the Southern Miss Invitational held at the SportsPlex in Birmingham, Ala.
Pacing the Golden Eagle performances was Kenton Sams who captured the high jump competition with a jump of 2.05m (6-08.75). Courtland Wells placed in a tie for fourth with a jump of 1.95m (6-04.75).
Elbert Rogers ran a season-best time of 49.57 in the 400 meters to place second while teammate Jamad Smith posted a time of 50.76 for seventh-place.
Randy McCoy ran a time of 7.96 in the preliminary round 60 meter hurdles to advance to the finals of the where he placed fourth with a time of 8.25. Courtland also advanced to the finals with a time of 8.30 and finished seventh in the finals with a time of 8.36
Christopher Monroe placed second in the triple jump with a mark of 14.63m (48-00) while Jamar Sims placed in a tie of eight in the long jump with a mark of 6.87m (22-6.50).
The 4x400 meter relay team placed with fifth with a time of 3:21.55.
LaSpencia Brown ran a time of 7.85 in the preliminary round to advance to the finals where she finished 8th with a time of 7.93.
Katie Canavin placed sixth in the 3000 meters with a time of 10:59.31.
Southern Miss will compete in the Vulcan Invitational on Feb. 8 in Birmingham, Ala.
