Jeb Meschke begins his first season as an assistant coach for the Southern Miss track and field and cross country program.

His duties include training jumpers as well as aiding in all aspect of the track and field program.

"I am very pleased to announce the addition of Jeb Meschke to my staff," Stephen said. "As an athlete at Southern Miss, he was a Conference USA Champion and NCAA qualifier. He is USTFCCA certified in the jumps and has experienced success on the junior college and high school levels. As much as anything else, Jeb impressed me with his passion for developing student-athletes and his willingness to work hard in the area of recruiting to achieve our goals. Jeb brings to the table championship perigee, expertise in the jumps and a genuine love for Southern Miss."

Prior to coming to Southern Miss, Meschke was the head girls' track and field coach at Windsor Forest (Ga.) High School where he coached sprints and jumps. As an adaptive physical education teacher, Meschke served as the local Special Olympics coordinator for Chatham County.

Meschke was also an assistant coach for indoor and outdoor track and field at Garden City (Kan.) Community College where he coached throws, jumps, sprints and hurdles. While at GCCC, he was the head strength and conditioning coach where designed workouts for all track and field athletes.

Meschke received master in sports medicine from Armstrong Atlantic State University and is a certified strength and conditioning coach through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. He holds a level II certification in the sprints from USATF.

Meschke was a two-year letterwinner for the Southern Miss Golden Eagles from 2003 to 2004. While at Southern Miss, Meschke competed in the javelin. He was a national qualifier in 2004 after placing fifth at the Mideast Region Meet. He placed second at the C-USA meet to teammate Conrad Chanove. In 2003, Meschke won the Conference USA javelin with a throw of 214-11, earning first team All-C-USA honors and establishing a then school record. He also qualified for the Mideast Regional meet where he finished 13th. Meschke earned his bachelor's degree in coaching and sport administration from Southern Miss in 2004.

The Garden City, Kan., native earned two letters at Garden City Community College where he was a NJCCA All-American in the javelin. Meschke earned his AA degree in 2002.

Meschke was a four-year letterwinner in track and field at Garden City High School. He is the son of Larry Meschke.

"It's great to be back at The University of Southern Mississippi," Meschke said. "I'm excited to help build on continued success of the track and field program."
