Bowie Finishes Second in Long Jump at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships,

DES MOINES, Iowa - Southern Miss' Tori Bowie comes up short in defending her national long jump title as she finished second in the competition in the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships Thursday in Des Moines, Iowa.

Bowie recorded a mark of 6.60m (21-8) in her first attempt in taking the early lead. Bowie held the lead until TCU's Whitney Gipson recorded a mark of 6.82m (22-4.50) on her second attempt. Bowie improved her mark in her final attempt of the night with an improved mark of 6.66m (21-10.25). She earned eight points towards the Southern Miss' team cause with the finish. With the eight points, Bowie will earn USTFCCCA first team All-America accolades.

Ganna Demydova will compete in the triple jump on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
