BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Southern Miss track and field teams turned in another solid day at the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds on Friday at Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex in Bloomington, Ind., as the Golden Eagles filled five more slots at the NCAA finals, and now have advanced seven athletes in seven events for Des Moines, Iowa.
Senior Chastity Riggien became the third athlete to punch her ticket to nationals, qualifying in the 100 and 200 meters. Riggien finished third in her heat of the 100 meters with a time of 11.42 to advance to the National Meet. She followed with a first-place finish in her heat in the first round to advance to the semifinals. There, she took second to qualify for the NCAA Nationals.
Riggien along with Brianna Rayfield, Sarah Omotayo and Tori Bowie, recorded a time of 44.41 in the 4x100 meter relay to advance to the national finals.
Another entry came from the women's high jump group as Ke'Airra Jones
placed in the top 12 to move on the nationals.
Ganna Demydova earned a trip to the finals after posting the best mark in the triple jump with a mark of 13.56 (44-6). Bowie also competed in the triple jump.
Suyi Gerogewill also participated in discus event on Saturday but failed to qualify for the nationals.
