JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Southern Miss track and field teams had two Golden Eagles qualify for the 2012 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championship, Jun3 6-9, at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa after competing in the East Preliminary Round at Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of North Florida.
Richard Collingwood became the first Golden Eagle to qualify for the NCAA National Outdoor Championship as he placed 11th overall in the discus a throw of 54.32m (178-2).
Tori Bowie earned her fourth-straight trip to the National Meet after finishing second in the long jump with a mark of 6.38m (20-11.25). Ganna Demydova also competed in the long jump and finished in 15th-place overall with a jump of 6.13m (20-1.50).
Bowie also competed in the women's 100m and ran a time of 11.45 in winning her heat and posting the fifth-fastest time. Bowie advanced to the quarterfinals that will be run on Friday. The top 12 will advance to the National Meet.
Dale Dunn recorded a time of 1:50.49 in advancing to the quarterfinals. Dunn finished sixth in his heat, but his time was good enough to rank him in the top 24.
Rachel Polk did not advance to the Nationals after recording a throw of 14.91m (48-11).
