FAIR PARK, Ala. - The Southern Miss indoor track and field men and women teams completed competition at the Conference USA Indoor Championship, finishing sixth and eighth respectively.

Tori Bowie earned a gold medal in the triple jump with a personal-best mark of 13.09m (42-11.50) to record a new CrossPlex record. Ke'Airra Jones placed fifth with a jump of 12.41m (40-8.75).

Jones then completed her day with a second-place finish in the high jump with a mark of 1.80m (5-10.75).

Rachel Polk started the day for the Golden Eagles with a second-place finish in the shot with a throw of 15.19m (49-10) for a school record and personal-best.

Justin Sims placed second in the 60 meters with a time of 6.75 while Randy McCoy finished sixth a time of 6.92. Dale Dunn ran a time of 1:52:53 to finish fifth and Julien Bousquet ran a time of 1:52.72 for seventh-place.

McCoy placed third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.16 and Courtland Wells placed eighth with a time of 8.56 in adding seven points to the total.

Ramon Crockett finished seventh in the triple jump with a mark 13.87m (45-6.25).

Robert Collingwood claimed second-place in the shot with a throw of 18.03m (59-2).

Stephanie Ledgerwood recorded a personal and school record time in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:00.73.

The Tulsa men and East Carolina women's teams won their first Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Championships in the closest combined title races in league history. Only 11.5 points separated the men's and women's first- and second-place teams. The Golden Hurricane won the program's first title on the last race of the day, edging out five-time defending C-USA champion Houston by one point, 139-138.

The ECU men also had a strong showing, finishing third with 90.5 points as Memphis (86.5) and UTEP (80.5) placed fourth and fifth, respectively. The two-day event was hosted by UAB at the world-class Birmingham CrossPlex in Fair Park, Ala.

The Pirates took control of the championship midway through the day as ECU collected 123 points to edge defending champion UCF's 113.5. Houston placed third with 74 points while Memphis finished fourth (62). The following four spots were decided by 10 points or less as the fifth-place accolade went to Rice (51) followed by UTEP (47) , SMU (45) and host UAB and Southern Miss tied for eighth with 41 points each.

Over the two-day event, 26 facility records, 23 championships marks and four NCAA automatic times with set.
