Jeremy McClain

Jeremy McClain joined the Southern Miss staff in October of 2012 as the Deputy Director of Athletics.

In his current role, McClain oversees the day-to-day operations of the department and his direct responsibilities include revenue generation, which includes licensing, corporate development, fundraising and ticket sales. The areas under his supervision include marketing, communications, development and ticketing.

In 2013, under his direction, the department set fundraising records for the annual fund of $2 million and another $8 million for the overall athletic foundation.

He also has been responsible for securing funding and supervising major facility projects, including: a track renovation, a football turf replacement, the baseball weight room project, a golf practice facility and the Reed Green Coliseum renovation project.

McClain additionally holds the title of sport administrator for both football and baseball and is responsible for football scheduling.

While on staff, McClain led the search committee in the process of hiring a new football coach in December 2012 and assisted in the search process for a new head basketball coach in April 2014.

During this time at Southern Miss, he also served as Interim Athletic Director during a time of leadership transition for the department in the summer of 2013.

Before joining the staff at Southern Miss, McClain served as Director of Athletics at Delta State University, beginning in 2007. While at Delta State, McClain developed a plan to increase services and assist in personal development of the school's 350 student-athletes through the expansion of the CHAMPS/Life Skills Program and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

McClain also was able to increase donations to the school's athletic department, securing funding for the first phase of DSU's Athletic Master Plan, as well as for a scoreboard renovation at Parker Field-McCool Stadium, Ferriss Field, University Field and Sillers Coliseum. Delta State's on-field successes also increased under McClain. During his tenure, the Statesmen and Lady Statesmen claimed seven Gulf South Conference championships, five NCAA Regional crowns and 21 NCAA postseason appearances. In 2010, the football team appeared in the NCAA Division II National Championship and in 2012, the baseball team earned a runner-up finish at the NCAA DII College World Series.

Prior to becoming Athletics Director, McClain was the Director of Development for the Delta State University Foundation, where he was responsible for the annual fund as well as soliciting major gifts.

McClain earned his bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Delta State in 1999, where he was a Division II All-American in baseball. He earned his master's degree from there in 2002. After graduation, he played five years of professional baseball.

He is married to the former to Christie Cannon of Calhoun City, Miss., and the couple have three children including son Cannon (10), and daughters Kate (7) and Piper (4).
