Yuji Katsuta joined the University of Southern Mississippi’s Sports Medicine Department in 2010, as the Assistant Athletic Trainer for the Golden Eagle men’s basketball program.
Katsuta arrived at Southern Miss from the University of New Orleans, where he was the athletic trainer for the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams as well as caring for the UNO men’s baseball team. Prior to his two years served at UNO, Katsuta completed a year-long athletic training internship with the NFL’s Carolina Panther’s for the 2007 season.
A native of Kagawa, Japan, Katsuta earned his bachelor’s degree in sports medicine from California University at Fresno in May of 2005. While pursing his degree, Katsuta served as a student assistant in the athletic training office from 2003-2005. From Fresno State, Katsuta completed a Master’s Degree in Exercise Science from the University of Mississippi in 2007. During his two-years at Ole Miss, Katsuta worked with the men’s tennis and the men’s and women’s golf teams.
Katsuta is a Nationally Certified Athletic Trainer and holds a National Academy of Sports Medicine Performance Enhancement Specialist certification. He is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, Southeast Athletic Trainers Association, Mississippi Athletic Trainer Association as well as holding a current Professional Rescuer Certification from the American Heart Association.
