Stephen Pugh joined the Southern Miss family in May 2017 as the Senior Associate AD for External Operations.
Pugh previously had a two-year stint at Tulsa as its Assistant AD for Marketing. While there, he developed the marketing campaigns for the football and men's basketball, including the gameday atmosphere and advertising strategy. Away from his Golden Hurricane duties, he also oversaw marketing efforts for the NCAA Tennis Championships and NCAA Basketball Tournament First and Second Rounds.
Pugh was also at James Madison from May 2013-May 2015 as its Director of Marketing, where he oversaw marketing department operations, managed the budget, developed advertising plans, led revenue generation for football and men's basketball while supervising staff responsible for Olympic sports and social media strategy. The Dukes finished third in FCS football for attendance and outdrew 32 FBS programs. The men's basketball program led the conference in attendance and increased student turnout by 45 percent, while the women's program exceeded their revenue goal by 45 percent and increased attendance by 35 percent.
Before JMU, Pugh served as an assistant director of marketing at Miami (Fla.) from Jan. 2011-May 2013. He was also a marketing associate with JMU Athletics for six months before the Miami stint.
Pugh holds a bachelor's degree in finance from the University of Texas with an MBA from Miami.
