Assistant Director/Facilities & Event Operations
Jake Kuennen was appointed as the Assistant Director of Athletic Facilities and Event Management in June of 2013. In his current role, Kuennen oversees facility operations at M.M. Roberts Stadium, Pete Taylor Park, the track & field and soccer complex, the Duff Athletic Center and the tennis complex. Additionally, Kuennen directs event management efforts for home men's basketball, baseball, women's soccer, tennis, and track & field contests. He also represents the department on the University's ADA committee.
Kuennen came to Hattiesburg after spending two years as the Assistant Director of Facilities and Operations at Ohio University. Kuennen led game management efforts for a large portion of the department's home athletic events, and played a major role in the daily maintenance and scheduling of facilities. During his tenure at Ohio, Kuennen also oversaw numerous renovation projects and served as the championship director for the 2011 MAC Field Hockey Championship and the 2012 MAC Wrestling Championship.
Prior to his time at Ohio, Kuennen served as the Facilities Coordinator at Drake University for two years, where he played a key role in the day-to-day operation of Drake's athletic venues. At Drake, Kuennen was also responsible for supervising the event staff for home athletic contests and special events that included the Drake Relays, the 2010 USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, the 2010 MVC Softball Championship and the 2011 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championship.
The Denver, Iowa native earned bachelor's degrees in business administration and fitness management from Wartburg College in 2009, where he also competed as a student-athlete in football and baseball. Kuennen also went on to receive a master's degree in business administration from Drake University in 2011, as well as a master's degree in sports administration from Ohio University in 2013.
