Senior AD for Administration and Compliance
In his role as Senior Associate AD, Feig will have direct responsibility for the department's rules compliance program; provide oversight of student-athlete services; serve as a sport administrator; and serve as a liaison to the university's General Counsel among other duties.
"I am very pleased that Daniel has joined our team," said McGillis. "He brings tremendous experience, great expertise and outstanding leadership qualities to Southern Miss. I am very confident that Daniel's recent experience at the University of Alabama, his senior management experience at Arkansas State, his background in the law and his people skills will enable us to maintain a strong compliance program. As importantly, Daniel will make significant contributions across the board that will facilitate the building of championship programs and a positive student-athlete experience. I believe his impact will be far reaching."
Feig comes to Southern Miss after spending the last two years as Director of Compliance at the University of Alabama. In his role with the Crimson Tide, Feig served as the primary contact for all rules interpretations and was responsible for the designing, coordinating and administering the rules education program to all coaches and constituent groups. In addition, he was the primary compliance contact for all Alabama football academic eligibility issues as well as the primary person for men's basketball in regards to compliance issues.
His duties at Alabama also included overseeing the school's APR and academic certification programs.
While at Alabama, Feig was a member of the State of Alabama's Athlete Agent Commission, in which he helped re-draft Alabama's agent law and re-wrote the University of Alabama's Academic Certification Policy Manual and made significant changes to the procedure to strengthen the academic certification process. He was the primary compliance contact for all promotional requests and coach/student-athlete appearances and a featured presenter at the "Group of 10" Compliance Summit at Regional Rules in May, 2013, which included 10 of the largest athletic departments' compliance leaders that get together yearly to discuss best practices for high-profile institutions.
"I was very excited when I heard about the potential opportunity to continue to advance my career at Southern Miss," said Feig. "Throughout the interview process, I was very impressed with President Bennett, Bill McGillis, (Director of Athletics) Jeremy McClain, (Deputy Director of Athletics) Kristi Pierce, (Compliance Coordinator) Stacy Breazeale (Director of Academics) as well as all the rest of the staff and coaches. I look forward to working with all of our coaches, student-athletes, fans, and staff and helping continue the success Southern Miss has enjoyed through the years."
Prior to working at Alabama, Feig worked as the Assistant Director of Athletics for Compliance at Arkansas State for two years. Before getting into athletics, he served as an associate attorney for both Carr, Allison, P.C. - for almost three years - and Rumberger, Kirk & Caldwell, P.A. for over three years, both firms in Birmingham, Ala.
Feig is a 1999 Bachelor of Arts graduate of Birmingham-Southern College, where he played on the soccer team there, earning Final Four spots in three of his four seasons there. He also holds a Juris Doctorate from the University of Alabama School of Law in 2003.
