New Radio Voice For Golden Eagle Women's Hoops
Nov. 5, 2008
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Josh West, a familiar broadcaster and talk show host to high school sports fans throughout central and southern Mississippi, is the new play by play announcer for Southern Miss women's basketball, officials with ISP Sports, producer of the Golden Eagle radio network, have announced.
West will be at courtside, along with color analyst Kay James, for all regular season and postseason contests during the upcoming season, which promises to be an exciting one for Golden Eagle fans.
With all five starters returning from last year's 21-14 squad, Southern Miss is the preseason choice of Conference USA coaches to win the 2009 league championship.
"We are excited to have Josh join our broadcast team and know that he will do an outstanding job," Craig Curtis, General Manager of the Southern Miss ISP Network, says.
West, who received his broadcast journalism degree from Southern Miss in 2004, has been involved in sports radio work on the prep and local college level for the past seven years, most recently with WYAB in Jackson. He is replacing Jason Baker, current sideline reporter on the Southern Miss Football broadcasts, who previously served as the Golden Eagle women's basketball play by play announcer.
Baker was unable to continue his women's basketball duties because of other commitments, but is scheduled to remain part of the Southern Miss Baseball radio team in 2009 with play by play man John Cox.
