HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss Director of Athletics Richard Giannini has announced that the flagship station for Southern Miss Athletics, WXRR-FM, Rock 104, has agreed to extend its contract with the University through June 2012.
"We enjoy the relationship the athletic department has with Larry and Debbie Blakeney and with our flagship station, Rock 104," Giannini said. "The station is a power medium for us to broadcast the message of Golden Eagles Athletics to a wide area of our fans through our games and our coaches' call-in shows. We are extremely excited about this extension and know our fans will be as well."
All football and men's basketball games and football and men's basketball call-in radio shows will be broadcast on WXRR - 104.5 FM. Women's basketball and baseball will be broadcast on the sister-station, 96.5 FM. The station is planning on upgrading its transmission capabilities to produce a stronger signal in the near future.
