Although the Golden Eagle football team is taking a much needed break this weekend, the rest of the Southern Miss sports teams are in action at home this weekend. This has been a great week for our football team to get many of our players healthy for the first time in several weeks. Fans do not realize we have seven starters that did not dress for the East Carolina game and we lost four additional players during the game. It was not much better for the Memphis game; however, all but two or three should be ready for action next Saturday for our Halloween Black Out game against UAB.
It was another good week at Southern Miss for another reason. Retired U. S. Army General and former Southern Miss football student-athlete, Jeff Hammond joined our team. He will head our development and fund-raising efforts and we are very excited to have him back on our team. Jeff is an amazing person and will have a major impact on our program.
This weekend our volleyball and soccer teams have home matches on Friday and Sunday. Scott Berry's baseball team will host William Carey in a 2 pm contest at Pete Taylor Park. Larry Eustachy and our men's basketball team will host a free Hardwood Club Fish Fry at 6 pm followed by a scrimmage from 7 to 8. Early afternoon the Hardwood Club will have a cookout outside of Reed Green Coliseum with live music and entertainment. Our tennis program will also host a free clinic at our new tennis courts. We hope you will be able to join us on campus for one or all of these events. Come early and stay late.
As our football team prepares for UAB on Saturday, October 30th, we want to make sure you know the game is an 11:00 start for television. It gives us all a chance to be creative with our tailgating food. The game is another important step in our effort to be the best team in C-USA and please help us fill up the stadium, wear your Black and be Loud and Proud!
