Congratulations to players and coaches for Saturday's exciting 41-16 victory over Marshall. This was an important game, as the Eagles won their conference opener and maintain momentum headed into this Saturday's key homecoming matchup with East Carolina.
With the win on Saturday, Southern Miss tied a Carlisle-Faulkner Field/Roberts Stadium record by extending their home winning streak to 11 games. This has happened only two other times - during the 1984-87 and 1998-2000 campaigns.
The Eagles' record now stands at 4-1, which is the best start for Southern Miss since the 2004 team also started 4-1 to open the year. The Eagle defense continues to play extremely well and the Marshall game was the eighth time in the Fedora era that the Golden Eagle offense has scored at least 40 points in a contest.
The Eagles are on a roll, and it's an exciting time to be enjoying Southern Miss football!
The team needs your continued support and enthusiasm more than ever this weekend as they host the Pirates, who kept the Golden Eagles out of the C-USA Championship game last year. The game day atmosphere and in-stadium crowd and noise really get the players pumped up. Last Saturday with a hint of fall in the air, tailgating was at a fever pitch and it was great seeing Southern Miss fans loud and proud at the Rock.
Homecoming festivities are going on this week across campus, and the excitement is building for Saturday's 6:30 kickoff vs. East Carolina, which includes the homecoming parade in downtown Hattiesburg in the morning and Fireworks after the game. In our Centennial Year, we are expecting the largest contingent of former players and alumni returning in history. The weather forecast is for another near-perfect weekend, so we urge everyone to make their plans for another great Saturday of Eagle football. Come early, stay late, wear your GOLD and be LOUD and PROUD!!!!
