Southern Miss senior men's golfer Joel Myrick shot a four-under par 140 to hold the lead after 36 holes of the Adams Cup of Newport Cleveland Golf Classic, which was held at the Orchard Course of the Newport National Golf Course in Newport, R.I.
Myrick fired a one-under par 71 in his first circuit at the 7,244 yard course. He followed that with a career-low round of 69 to hold a one-stroke lead over Tyler Hitchcock of USF (141) in the individual competition.
Myrick fired a final-round, one-over par 73 to win the Adams Cup. He finished the tournament with a three-under par 213, defeating Tyler Hitchcock of USF by one stroke and three others in the field by two strokes to capture his first individual medalist honor of his Golden Eagle career and first for Southern Miss since Danny Dennis won the Fairway Club Invitational in Lincoln, Neb., Sept. 13-14, 2004.
