Damion Fletcher Named Southern Miss Student Athlete of the Week

Fletcher helped the Golden Eagles improve to a 2-1 record this weekend against N.C. State, finishing with a career-high 177 yards on 28 carries, scoring three touchdowns, becoming the first Golden Eagle to run for three touchdowns since Derrick Nix and Anthony Harris accomplished it against Jackson State (8/31/02). He also caught a pass for 17 yards, finishing the game with 194 all-purpose yards, also a career-best.

On the year, Fletcher has accumulated 382 rushing yards on 63 carries, scoring five touchdowns. He averages 6.1 yards per rush and currently ranks No. 1 in Conference USA in rushing yards per game (127.33), scoring (10.00) and No. 2 in all-purpose yardage (153.0). Nationally, he ranks No. 9 in rushing, No. 10 in all-purpose yardage and No. 17 in scoring. He is also currently ranked as the No. 1 true freshman in the nation and the No. 2 freshman in the nation.

Fletcher was named Conference USA Co-Offensive Player of the Week.
