HATTIESBURG, Miss. - This week's Golden Eagle Player of the Week is Golden Eagle Football Tight End Shawn Nelson.
The 6'5", 239 lb., Gonzales, La. native followed up an impressive 12 catch, 118 yard game against Auburn, in which he caught two touchdowns, with an equally dominant performance over the Arkansas State Red Wolves on Saturday.
Nelson, who is quickly becoming one of Quarterback Austin Davis' favorite targets, caught 7 passes for 110 yards in the Eagles' 27-24 victory in Jonesboro, Ark.
For Nelson, a senior at Southern Miss, this game marks only the second time in his career to have two consecutive 100-yard games. The last time it occurred was his freshman year against Tulane (5/113 yds.) and Arkansas State in the New Orleans Bowl (6/121 yds.).
Nelson has also moved into a tie for third place for the most 100-yard games in a Golden Eagle career with four. He is tied with LeRoy Handy.
