Aug. 31, 2010
Excitement abounds as Southern Miss gets ready to kickoff the 2010 football season Thursday night in a nationally televised telecast on ESPN. Being the first major telecast of the 2010 college football season will provide the Golden Eagles unprecedented national exposure. We have had a great pre-season camp and the expectations for an excellent season are very high. Our team and coaches have worked very hard during the spring and summer in hopes of a record setting year. We encourage our fans to get their season tickets to ensure good seats for all our six homes games highlighted by the Kansas, East Carolina and Houston contests. Also, please wear your "Go Gold" shirts both for our home and road games which shows our fans support.
Congratulations to our Lady Eagle soccer and volleyball teams which both opened the season with victories. I feel this will be a very special year for all our Golden Eagle teams and please join the athletic family by attending the events and cheering our student-athletes to victory.
In closing, we all know about how the downturn of the economy has affected our University and athletics. We have always faced challenges but at the end of the day, we have displayed tremendous resilience, and have made incredible strides in our efforts to be a first class institution. With your continued support together we will take SOUTHERN MISS TO THE TOP!!!
