Fall Sports Begin Reporting This Week and Fanfare is Set for Saturday
Aug. 3, 2011
It's a Great Week to be a Golden Eagle!
This week each year is always an exciting time for Golden Eagle athletics. Three of our fall sports teams - football, women's soccer and volleyball - report to campus to begin practice for the season which signals the start of our 2011-12 athletic year. In addition, the annual Southern Miss Fanfare will be held this Sat., August 6, at the Payne Center on campus from 4 to 6 p.m., and fans will get a chance to meet the players for our 2011 squad. This is the best time to take pictures and get autographs with all of your favorite Golden Eagle players.
All of our coaches, staff and student -athletes cannot wait to begin the year. Our football team has had an outstanding off-season and a great summer of workouts. The football team has been picked to challenge for the C-USA title this year and we are expecting great results from them. Last year was the best overall year in Southern Miss athletics history as we recorded our highest ever national ranking for the total program. We are poised to have an even better year in 2011-12.
On another note, you may have read where Southern Miss lost its efforts to register our Eagle head mark. The University attorney's are reviewing the ruling and we will not comment on the matter until this process has been completed.
Please join us on Saturday at the Payne Center at 4 p.m., and help Southern Miss kickoff the football season in grand style. It's great to be a Golden Eagle!
