The Great Things About Southern Miss

We were thrilled to see the fantastic turnout in Jackson a week ago for the annual All-Star party. This event brings together Southern Miss fans and supporters from across the Central Mississippi and Jackson-area and we look forward to similar events this week in Biloxi (July 24 Gulf Coast Beach Bash) and in Hattiesburg (August 7 Eagle Fanfare), as well as the Football 101 Women's Clinic that Forrest General and Southern Miss are putting on July 29th. This year the conversations among our fans reflect great anticipation and excitement, not just for football season but the future of our program. We were also pleased to welcome General Jeff Hammond back to the Golden Eagles athletic family. In his new role in fund raising, Jeff will make a tremendous impact on our students, coaches, faculty, staff and alumni. Southern Miss fans know how important it is to support our athletic programs by doing things like buying season tickets, attending games and even becoming a member of the Eagle Club. Just as important is taking advantage of opportunities we have for telling others about the great things about our university.

This is especially true when we want others outside our state and region to understand who we are, what we have accomplished, and what our vision is for the future. This means talking about not only athletics and academics, but our storied history of the Pine Belt and how we have become the Gulf South's premiere university.

Every Southern Miss fan and alumnus has opportunities to be ambassadors for our great university. Our graduates are dispersed across the country, and they represent Southern Miss in whatever community they work and play in. Some of our most prominent alums are also out there talking about the great things at Southern Miss.

We recently had an opportunity to visit with Brett Favre, who reflected upon his days as a student and athlete at Southern Miss, and what his alma mater means to him. Here is a sample clip of that discussion:

Brett had many positive things to say about his time at Southern Miss and what the university has meant to him. We'll be sharing more of our conversations with Brett very soon.

We encourage all our fans to stay focused on our objective to compete at the highest level, and remember to be positive and let others know about the great things happening at Southern Miss! Download this PDF Open PDF to learn more.
