July 18, 2008
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - University of Southern Mississippi Director of Athletics Richard Giannini announced Wednesday the promotion of Jay McDowell to Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Technology as well as the hiring of Lance Weaver as Assistant Director of Video Operations.
McDowell, who was Director of Video Operations for the past three years, will continue to oversee all aspects of the athletic department's video efforts, which included streaming home video events through the athletics' official website - SouthernMiss.com. His new duties will include producing the football and men's and women's coaches television shows, running the video board during home football games, providing and updating content for the new message board on 4th Street as well as producing all of the department's commercials, as well as handling highlight tapes.
"Most of our video production, which includes our coaches' television shows and commercials, was outsourced in the past but over the last few years we have seen an increased need in this area," Giannini said. "With the increased video demands as well as having someone of Jay's outstanding abilities in video production on our staff, we thought it was a logical progression of our video department's requirements presently and into the future."
Weaver, a May 2008 graduate of Arkansas State, comes to Southern Miss after working the last three years as the video coordinator at ASU, where he supervised and trained a staff of six in the Athletic Video Operations office. His responsibilities there included the filming and editing of all football practice and game films, maintaining the football complex computer and video equipment, producing highlight films and Jumbotron content for home games.
Weaver's main emphasis will include working with the football program, but will assist McDowell in all areas of the video operations.
