"I am extremely honored to join the Golden Eagle family and make Hattiesburg my home,” Cohen said. “I'd like to thank Bill McGillis, Brent Jones and Jack Duggan for giving me this opportunity to continue the momentum that defines Southern Miss. I'm very excited to be a part of this outstanding operation."
Cohen previously worked at the University of Louisiana Monroe where he was the primary contact for the women’s basketball and tennis programs, as well as holding secondary roles with the football and baseball programs. During his time at ULM, Cohen initiated new social media campaigns, assisted in a variety of marketing and promotional roles and built strong relationships across campus and with the media.
Prior to his stint at ULM, Cohen spent four years as an undergraduate media relations intern at TCU where one of his supervisors there was his father, Mark Cohen, Assistant Athletics Director for Media Relations.
“David emerged as the clear leader in a very talented pool for our Director of Communications position,” Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Affairs Brent Jones said. “David is extremely talented and passionate about communications, emerging media and technology. David's background of growing up in the business as well as his strong and deep understanding of social and digital media make him a great fit for our fully integrated marketing and communications department.”
Cohen also interned with the Texas Rangers and Carolina Panthers and held stringer roles with the Associated Press, where he was responsible for producing postgame stories for TCU baseball and basketball contests.
Cohen is a graduate of TCU where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in strategic communication.
