An inside look at the month of June
June 3, 2010
We are on our way to Auburn and are very happy for Coach Scott Berry and our Golden Eagle baseball team. Congratulations to them for winning the C-USA Tournament Championship with their exciting win over Rice. It marks the eighth consecutive NCAA Baseball Championship appearance for the Golden Eagles. Only nine NCAA D1 collegiate teams have made more consecutive visits to an NCAA Regional than Southern Miss. As we start the month of June, we have a lot of exciting things happening. Coach Fedora and our football staff start their state-wide camp tour next week (June 6-10) and many of our other sports will be hosting camps in Hattiesburg.
I will be traveling to bowl outings with the Orange Bowl and St. Pete Bowl and am looking forward to being with my Athletic Director colleagues from all the NCAA D1 conferences. June 30th is the end of our fiscal year at Southern Miss and I urge all that have not contributed to the Eagle Club, to please do so by the end of the month. Even though the Eagle Club scholarship commitment to the University is $1.8 million, our scholarships costs are $4.3 million. The more Eagle Club donations we receive will lower the scholarship deficit. This past year we graduated 70 student-athletes, who will now go out into the business world and start successful business careers. These graduates are now proud Southern Miss alumni and we need your continued financial support to one day be able to fund our entire scholarship commitment through the Eagle Club. Go Eagles and let's pull our baseball team through another NCAA Regional and on to a Super Regional next week.
