Golden Eagle Baseball and Track and Field Teams Set for NCAA Competition
June 2, 2011
Congratulations to the Southern Miss baseball team and Coach Scott Berry as they head to their ninth consecutive NCAA Regional Tournament at Georgia Tech in Atlanta this weekend. Only nine other universities have earned more consecutive trips to the NCAA Baseball Tournament than Southern Miss. Two years ago, the Atlanta Region was the start of the trek to the College World Series and the finest baseball season in Golden Eagle history. All the games will be televised on CSS and we expect a large contingent of fans to make the trip to Atlanta.
We also congratulate seven Golden Eagle track athletes who will be headed to the NCAA Track & Field Nationals in Des Moines, Iowa on June 8-11. They include Tori Bowie (long jump, 4x100m relay); Ramon Crockett (long jump); Ganna Demydova (triple jump); Ke'Arria Jones (high jump); Sara Omotayo (4x100m relay) Brianna Rayfield (4x100m relay) and Chastity Riggien (100m, 200m, 4x100m relay). The Southern Miss women's track team is currently ranked 20th in the nation. Bowie won the national championship in the long jump at the NCAA Indoor meet this winter as the Lady Eagles finished 13th in the nation, the highest ever national finish by a Southern Miss track team. Congratulations to Coach Kevin Stephen and his staff for the great job they are doing.
Best wishes to both the baseball and track and field teams as they looked to earn national recognition.
Please don't forget the deadline to reorder your football season tickets and premium seating. We have a waiting list for both the club level and the suites areas. Priority seating in those areas are now being filled and the unclaimed seats will shortly be allocated to those on the waiting list. Overall season ticket sales have been brisk and we are looking forward record football sales this fall.
Hope to see you in Atlanta for the NCAA Baseball Regional this weekend. Wear your Gold and let's have the same impact as we did two years ago. Our fans make the difference.
