HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss Director of Athletics Richard Giannini has announced the hiring of Wendy Rolison and her business, Leaps and Bounds Studio, as the new coach and consultant for the Southern Miss Cheerleading and Mascot program.
Additionally, Jennifer Centola has been selected as the school's new coach and choreographer for the Southern Misses Dance Team.
Wendy Rolison returns to Southern Miss and takes over the cheerleading program. Rolison, a 2001 graduate of Southern Miss, was a four-year varsity cheerleading squad member under the instruction of former coaches Tim and Cathy Giron. Additionally, she brings over ten years of experience in dance, cheerleading and gymnastics to the squad, including two years of gymnastics training with legendary Olympic coach, Bela Karolyi. Currently, Wendy is the owner of Leaps and Bounds Academy of Dance, Gymnastics, and Cheerleading (http://www.leapsandboundsstudio.com). Formerly Wendy Williams, the Meridian native currently resides with her husband Nate in Oak Grove.
Ms. Jennifer Centola also returns to the spirit program, having been an active member of the Southern Misses Dance Team in 2002 and 2003. Jennifer, a 2006 Southern Miss graduate, majored in Dance Performance and Choreography while in school, and has over 20 years of studio dance training and over 10 years of dance team training. Additionally, she is completing her Masters of Science with emphasis in Exercise Physiology and has earned certification by the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America
Tryouts for both the cheerleading / mascot program and the dance team have been set for April 18-20 and April 25-27 respectively. More information is available by visiting SouthernMiss.com
