HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The University of Southern Mississippi Department of Athletics will be holding tryouts for all of its spirit groups - Cheerleading, The Southern Misses Dance Team, and for Seymour the mascot - for the 2006-07 academic year.
Tryouts for the Southern Misses Dance Team will be held in the Payne Center on Friday, April 7 from 4-8 p.m., and Saturday, April 8 from 2-6 p.m. Those thinking of trying out are encouraged to participate in an open clinic on Sunday, April 2, also at the Payne Center from 2-5 p.m. The cost is $15.
Cheerleading squad and mascot tryouts will be held the weekend of April 21-23, at Planet Gymnastics in Hattiesburg. Those interested in college cheerleading are encouraged to participate in the Southern Miss College Prep Clinic on Saturday, April 1, beginning at 9 a.m., at the Cheer Authority in Hattiesburg. The cost is $75 for the day of instruction, t-shirt and more.
All three of our squads are competitive, thus require hard work, discipline, dedication and a cooperative attitude. Individuals interested and meeting those basic requirements must also be enrolled at, or accepted to attend, Southern Miss in the fall as a full-time student. Those trying out for either squad, cheerleading or dance team, must submit an application (available online), a current photo, proof of insurance, copy of USM student ID or proof of acceptance, and a $25 non-refundable fee.
Further squad, clinic and tryout information can be found on the web at www.SouthernMiss.com or by calling (601) 266-5017.
