HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The University of Southern Mississippi Department of Athletics will be holding tryouts for all of its spirit groups - Cheerleading, The Southern Misses Dance Team, and for Seymour the mascot - for the 2007-08 academic year.
Tryouts for the Southern Misses Dance Team will be held in the Payne Center on the campus of The University of Southern Mississippi on Saturday, April 21st from 9 a.m. until Noon and 2-5:30 p.m. on Court 4, and Sunday, April 22nd starting at 2 p.m. in the Dogwood Room.
There will be a preparatory dance clinic on Sunday April 15th from 2-5:30 p.m. in the Payne Center. This clinic is designed to help prospective members prepare for tryouts, as well as, provide a technique workshop for others interested. The cost to participate in the clinic is $15; cash only due at registration.
The Cheerleading squad and mascot tryouts will be held the weekend of April 27-29 also at the Payne Center. Participants are asked to wear Southern Miss attire; no baggy clothes permitted and female must wear appropriate cheer shoes.
All three of our squads are competitive, thus require hard work, discipline, dedication and a cooperative attitude. Individuals interested and meeting those basic requirements must also be enrolled at, or accepted to attend, Southern Miss in the fall as a full-time student. Those trying out for either squad, cheerleading or dance team, must submit an application (available online), a current photo, proof of insurance, copy of USM student ID or proof of acceptance, and a $25 non-refundable fee.
