Southern Miss Mourns the Passing of H.D. "Doc" Roberts

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -
The University of Southern Mississippi family mourns the loss of long-time Golden Eagle supporter H.D. "Doc" Roberts, who passed away Wednesday.
Roberts was a member of the Southern Miss Alumni Hall of Fame and the M-Club Hall of Fame, a member of the Southern Miss Foundation Honor Club, an honorary life-time member of the USM Athletic Foundation's board of directors, and a member of the Circle of Champions. In addition, the H.D. "Doc" Roberts Distinguished Service Award is given each year at the M-Club Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
Generous contributions from Roberts and his family have helped in the construction of The Athletic Center and the South End Zone Complex at M. M. Roberts Stadium, as well as many other projects on the Hattiesburg campus. Roberts and his family have been generous supporters of Southern Miss Athletics for many years.
Roberts was an athlete in his own right, as he played golf for the Golden Eagles during the 1951-52 season, when the squad won three of five dual matches and finished fourth in the Gulf States Conference tournament.

Such a tremendous loss not only impacts Hattiesburg and our university, but all Mississippians who respected Doc as a great humanitarian and wonderful ambassador of kindness. He was a dear friend and caring supporter who made a difference in life through his heartfelt support and commitment to continue the tradition of excellence for his beloved university. His spirit and memory will prevail through the countless hearts he touched for so many grateful people across South Mississippi. It is a privilege and honor to most respectfully call Doc Roberts a beloved Golden Eagle. He will be missed."

Doc freely gave of his time and financial resources to help advance the missions of the University, its athletic department and its student-athletes.
