As Executive Associate Athletic Director, Daniel Feig is primarily responsible for assisting the Director of Athletics with the day-to-day management and administration of all aspects of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. Among his broad responsibilities, Feig directly supervises a number of administrative units within the department, including the Student-Athlete Development Office, the athletic compliance office, athletic academic services ("Student Academic Enhancement Program"), the athletic training office, the strength and conditioning program, the drug testing program, and the graduate assistantship program. As a former practicing attorney, Feig also serves as the Athletic Department's liaison to the University's General Counsel's Office and is the Athletic Department's contract administrator. In addition to these responsibilities, Feig serves as the sport administrator for the Men's Basketball program, the Women's Volleyball program and he is the co-sport administrator of the Football program, and he is responsible for football scheduling.
In his Chief Operating Officer-type role, Feig's duties are broad and disparate and include a wide range of projects and assignments. For example, Feig is spearheading a number of facility construction projects and he has assisted with others, including the construction of a new stand-alone Volleyball arena, the new Beach Volleyball courts, the Bower Academic Excellence Center, the M-Club lounge and nutrition facility, the strength and conditioning facility and nutrition bar, the football locker room, and the football team meeting room. In addition, he has chaired and/or served on a number of hiring committees for head coaches and senior level staff during his time at Southern Miss, including the hire of head football coach, Jay Hopson; head track and field coach, Jon Stuart; head women's volleyball coach, Stephanie Radecki; and Associate Athletic Director for Academic Support Services, Kylie Amato, to name a few.
Feig arrived at Southern Miss in the fall of 2013 after spending the prior two years as Director of Compliance at the University of Alabama. In his role with the Crimson Tide, Feig was responsible for the designing, coordinating and administering the rules education program to all coaches and constituent groups, and he was heavily involved in the provision of all rules interpretations to all sports. In addition, he was the primary compliance contact for all Alabama football academic eligibility issues as well as the primary contact for all men's basketball compliance issues. Prior to working at Alabama, Feig served as the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance at Arkansas State University for two years, where he was the sport administrator for the Women's Soccer program.
Before beginning his career in collegiate athletics, Feig worked as an attorney for Rumberger, Kirk & Caldwell, P.A. and Carr, Allison, P.C. for over six years. Both law firms are located in Birmingham, Alabama and Feig's practice at both firms primarily consisted of civil litigation defense.
Feig is a 2000 Bachelor of Arts graduate of Birmingham-Southern College, where he was a member of the Men's Soccer team that earned Final Four spots in three of his playing years. He also earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Alabama School of Law in 2003.
